Cloud Storage for Offsite Backup - Since 2001

Our History

rsync.net began providing cloud storage for offsite backups in the fall of 2001, for our original corporate parent, JohnCompanies.

In 2005, we became a stand-alone firm dedicated only to offsite backup. We provide this simple product and nothing else.

Our Team

John Kozubik - Founder / CEO

John Kozubik founded rsync.net in 2001 as a feature for an ISP that he owned. Later, in 2005, rsync.net was spun off as a stand-alone firm providing services to the general public.

Originally from Colorado, but now living in the San Francisco Bay Area, John has been a UNIX engineer for over 25 years and is a pioneer in cloud computing. His first firm, JohnCompanies was the first provider of virtual colocated servers (what we now know as "virtual private servers", or "VPS") and rsync.net pre-dates almost all current cloud storage providers.

John attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, was a Naval Reservist for eight years, and is a volunteer firefighter.

Dave Boodman - Vice President - Engineering

Dave Boodman has been developing his technical skill set in computing and software-related disciplines for more than 25 years. During his career he has amassed a wide array of skills in multi-platform, high-availability server networks, including management of IoT sensor networks and cloud computing environments comprised of over 1000 virtual machines. His extensive experience in server and network administration are complimented by his expertise in web-centric software design for business, payment and systems management.

Dave graduated from UC San Diego with a B.S. and was quickly recruited by a start-up company in La Jolla, CA. He continues to call San Diego home where he enjoys biking, rock climbing and efforts towards home & auto energy storage, generation and efficiency technologies.

Mariposa Lewicki - Vice President - Operations

Mariposa Lewicki brings to rsync.net a rich history of experience in operations, billing and customer relations and retention. Her skillset and expertise in resource management all ows our team to efficiently handle the many thousands of customers that we serve around the world.

Mariposa graduated from the University of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff and lives with her family in Marin County, California.

Rory Groves - Engineer, Developer

Rory joined the rsync.net team in 2012 and brought with him a deep experience of Windows application development. His experience as a founder of Swift Weather and the management of that firms thousands of clients was a natural fit with our own firm and our similar patterns of customer relationship management.

Rory holds a Bachelors of Science from Evangel University and resides in Minnesota with his wife Becca and 3 children.

Our ZFS platform provides resiliency and allows clients to configure point-in-time snapshots that are immutable.

We have a world class, IPV6-capable network with locations in three US cities as well as Zurich and Hong Kong.

You will receive unlimited, free technical support, over phone and email, for any use you make of our product.

We offer customizable monitoring and alerts, free of charge, using email, SMS, Pushover and webhook calls.
